Story
Parasyte -the maxim- tells the story of Shinichi Izumi, a seemingly ordinary high school student whose life is irrevocably altered when parasitic creatures from outer space begin to invade Earth. These parasites, known as “Parasytes,” burrow into human hosts, taking control of their bodies and minds. Shinichi, however, manages to prevent a parasite from fully entering his brain, and it instead takes up residence in his right hand. This parasite, whom Shinichi names Migi (meaning “right”), forms a symbiotic relationship with him, granting him superhuman abilities but also forcing him to confront the horrors of the Parasytes’ existence.
The story unfolds as Shinichi and Migi navigate a world where humans are hunted and devoured by the disguised Parasytes. They must learn to coexist, using their unique partnership to survive and protect themselves from both the human authorities and the other, more hostile Parasytes. Shinichi grapples with the loss of his humanity, the emotional toll of the constant threat, and the moral complexities of his situation. He witnesses the Parasytes’ cold logic and their disregard for human life, leading him to question the very definition of what it means to be human.
